Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Beautiful, intense and bright color, with very aromatic nose reminiscent of red fruits like cherries, as well as notes of violets and roses. On the palate it is supple, velvety and balanced, with earthy notes of forest floor and spices contributed by the elegant, well integrated oak. Its excellent structure augurs a long life — at least another 20 years, probably more. I would recommend serving it at cellar temperature, between 58-60° F, and it will benefit from decanting.
Vineyard Notes
Named after the late patriarch of the Torres family, this sustainable vineyard is located in the Green Valley — the coolest, foggiest region of the Russian River Valley, only ten miles from the Pacific. The European-style high density of over 2,000 vines per acre provides low yields and requires intensive labor; but the vines live longer and the grapes acquire better balance and greater concentration, as well as more elegance and finesse than with the traditional low density
Production Notes
The grapes were harvested October 31 to September 3. After fermenting with indigenous yeast, the wine was aged for 18 months in 50% new and 50% 1- and 2-year old French barrels, coopered by Remond from the forest of Bertranges, and Rousseau from Center of France. It was bottled, unfined and unfiltered, in March 2023.
